All kids are uniquely creative, but soon the world teaches us to color inside the lines.

Hi, I’m Jessica.

There was a time when I was anxious about art because I didn’t think I was “good at it.” Thankfully, I found art again in college, loved it, and vowed to be the type of art teacher that encouraged creativity.

Art hasn’t always come naturally to me. I had to work hard at it, but loving the process used to create art is what kept me going. When I realized I could fall in love with art all over again, I was inspired to help kids have that same experience. Kids are like sponges.

I like to share what I know about color and texture with them, and I want to instill the love of art in young people.

A native Kansan, I graduated in 2000 from Washburn University as a K-12 certified art teacher. Over the years, I’ve taught art in middle and high school, art classes at Wonderscope Children’s Museum, and summer art camps through Johnson County Community College. For the past 8 years, I taught art classes at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Mo.

During that time, I also started a family with my husband, Dennis. We live in Lenexa, Kansas, and have three amazing kids: Garrett, Carson and Palmer. It has been our goal to encourage diversity, creativity and imagination in their lives, and now I’m sharing that with others.
